Body Worn Cameras (BWC)

  • Body worn cameras will be used for documenting police-citizen interactions. By using body worn cameras to show citizens their encounters, better transparency and communication is hoped for.
  • Body-worn cameras (BWCs) are widely adopted in modern policing as they are rapidly diffusing technologies. These cameras, which are utilized by patrol officers, have been found to have positive effects on police behavior. Police departments generally show a receptive attitude towards BWCs due to their potential benefits in enhancing accountability and transparency.
  • BWC will be used to record footage throughout the duration of the encounter so that the driver is able to see what happened during the stop. This can allow for a better understanding of why the stop occurred and allows accountability for both the officer and the citizen.
