Body Worn Cameras (BWC)

Why there is a need to share the BWC footage with the citizens?

The usage of BWCs and giving access to footage enhances:

  1. Accountability: They provide an objective record of interactions between officers and the public, which can be used to hold both parties accountable for their actions.
  2. Transparency: The footage captured by body-worn cameras can increase transparency in law enforcement or security operations by providing visual evidence of incidents.
  3. Evidence: The recorded footage can serve as valuable evidence in investigations, court proceedings, and internal reviews of incidents.
  4. Training and Evaluation: Body-worn camera footage can be used for training purposes to review interactions and improve officers' performance.
  5. Public Trust: When used appropriately, body-worn cameras can help build trust between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve by demonstrating a commitment to transparency and accountability.
